The Literal and Figurative Power of Letting Go

Today, I ventured into something entirely new: wing foiling. This is something quite outside my comfort zone. To be honest- I’m not sure I like the wind on any given day. It’s bad for my hair and it dries out my contacts. However, I pushed myself and learned some amazing lessons. Something valuable was seeing the parallels between this wing foiling business and both life and leadership- amidst the wind and waves, I encountered "the three stages of letting go."

First, there's the initial release of power—easing up on the force against the wind. It made me think about times in life when pushing too hard doesn't lead to progress. Sometimes, stepping back allows for a fresh perspective or a much-needed break, guiding us towards a smoother path forward.

Next, I learned to release all power, letting the wind out of the wing. It mirrors those moments when we pause to assess our goals and decisions. It's about recalibrating, deciding whether to stay on course or pivot towards a new direction.

Finally, there's the ultimate act of letting go—releasing the wing entirely. It resonates deeply with times when we recognize that something no longer serves us. Whether it's a project, relationship, or a path we've outgrown, acknowledging when to move on is essential for personal growth and renewal.

Wing foiling taught me patience and persistence. Despite the challenges, there's a beauty in aligning with the wind, feeling its push and pull. It's a reminder that even when the journey is nerve-wracking, the growth and strength gained make every effort worthwhile.
